Brian-June 2023-Candace and John were the best hosts I have ever had. So friendly, helpful, great recommendations on things to do, super responsive and flexible. The alpaca ranch was so fun, my teenage daughters loved the whole experience and especially the dogs!! I cannot say enough great things about the hosts and the place. They put a lot of work into this and the orchard was so peaceful and nice. Those Stars and sunsets and sunrises were my favorite :)
Joy-May 2023-So quiet. So comfortable. I felt so safe. Loved the blinds on all the windows. During the day, let in all the natural light you want, then at night, darken all you want. Kitchen stocked with nearly-new cookware.
Dakota-May 2023-Candace and John were absolutely spectacular hosts! We were coming off of a 9-hour drive and their ranch was the perfect weary traveler’s oasis. Thoughtfully stocked and laid out for us personally, comfortable, and serene. 100% recommend checking out the cute alpacas, peacocks, sheep, and other animals and chatting with the hosts about the cool stuff they are doing with their fiber mill! They are wonderful folks who are doing amazing things with their ranch!
Herman-April 2023-We will be back and will recommend to other bikepackers. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
Joanne-April 2023-Awesome place to stay. Peaceful. Loved the animals and the tour of the fiber mill.
Christopher-March 2023-The Alpaca Casita is an experience! We stayed with our 3 young children (18mo, 4 & 9yo). The casita was spacious and had plenty of room. There were thoughtful amenities (toys coloring books an optional high chair pack and play and complimentary alpaca cookies!). Also a tv with good Wi-Fi and the ability to use your streaming apps (and free Hulu!). There were also hygiene amenities in case you forgot something, coffee, and plenty of space to store and cook food as the remote location is a bit far to drive to any local restaurants. The Casita, property, and surrounding views are breathtaking, relaxing, and worth the cost of the trip by themselves. The tour of the farm and material making process is a wonderful experience you should schedule time for. Candace and her husband made this an amazing experience for my entire family. My oldest son is special needs and has many questions, and gets off topic frequently. They were extremely patient, friendly, understanding. Will stay again!
Debbie-February 2023-This place would be a great weekend getaway to learn about and love on the alpacas and other fuzzies! Check out the wildlife that wonder by and get a tour of the fiber mill! Thanks so much for everything Fitzsimons!
Amanda-February 2023-The farm was so comfy and had everything needed for a great stay. The animals were cute and the owners offered a tour of the place. There was a card from the owner and some fresh eggs for the morning which was a nice touch.
Steve-January 2023-Wished I could have stayed longer.
Harvest Host
Fred-June 2023-This was our very first stop at our very first Harvest Host and we picked a wonderful place. John and Candace are by far the nicest people you could meet. Their love for their animals is evident and they have built a beautiful place. Their story is very inspiring and they love what they have built. The property is full of animals that are friendly and lovable. Parking is easy but if other campers there you may need to unhook to turn around. This is a must stop adventure if you love animals and alpaca kisses.
Evelyn-June 2023-The Hosts Candice, and John were simply lovely. They were there, to meet us the moment we arrived. They gave a great tour of the mill, and ranch. We learned a lot, we got to see Alpacas, sheeps, Llamas, Donkeys, chickens, peacocks, and their working staff the dogs 😊 The ranch was beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. The Orchard area had tables, swing, hammock, and cute ltl rabbits. Candice and John are a lovely couple, with an inspiring story. Plenty of space for parking, excellent views, if you’re near the area book a stay. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
DavidHMD-June 2023-What an absolutely awesome place to stay!! John and Candice are two of the friendliest people you will ever meet. There is a large gravel lot which will accommodate any size rig. The tour of the mill and farm was very educational, I now know the difference between and alpaca and a lama and will be sharing my new knowledge with friends for sometime to come. Thanks to John and his son for helping out with a camper problem I had! Of course Lisa enjoyed spending money in the store on yarn and things for her and our daughter.
Lots more reviews on the Harvest Host page for April through June-hard to keep up with them all lol! We are so thrilled that so many are enjoying our ranch!
Heidi M-April 2023-We had a wonderful stay at Candace & John’s “Enchanted Mill and Ranch.” They greeted us upon arriving, gave us an informative tour of the fiber mill; met the alpacas, llamas, donkeys, sheep and chickens; and opened their gift shop. They are delightful hosts. The mill and farm is well organized and a pleasure to see. We were a week too early for the shearing- which would have been fun. Thanks Candace and John!
Don & Elta S-April 2023-We had a great stay, enjoyed it very much
GottesmanFamily-April 2023-Candace and John are exceptional hosts. Their ranch is truly one of a kind and we will definitely be back. Our family enjoyed the tour of the fiber mill and learning about how the Alpaca and Sheep wool are turned into yarn and felt. Meeting all of the well loved animals in the barn and getting kisses and snuggles from the baby Alpaca was the highlight of the trip! This is a true hidden gem and will set a high bar for any Harvest Host to follow.
Jason A-April 2023-The owners, Candance and John (lovely people) both greeted us as we arrived and waved us goobyes as we departed. They gave us a tour and we got to meet the animals. Our stay was quiet and peaceful and it was just beautiful. Thanks again! Jason & Jennevieve
Cory H-April 2023-We can’t thank John and Candace enough for their hospitality. We communicated that we were going to be getting in a little late and they waited up for us. All their wonderful alpacas, llamas, donkeys and sheep showed us to s of love too!! Plenty of space to pull in with our 39ft bus and jeep being flat towed. Overall a wonderful experience!
drgpwsr77-April 2023-We absolutely loved our stay at the Enchanted Mill. Large gravel area level with spectacular views. Picnic table area with horse shoes and very open with losts of soace to enjoy the evening. We enjoyed the tour with the owners on the process of the mill and picked up some Alpaca yarn for our daughter. All the animals were so sweet and greet you right at your spot you park next to the fence. And Smith is the very best ranch dog, he stats on alert all night protecting the ranch, our pups just adored him. This place is magical and we highly recommend this stop along 1-40 in NM its a quick 8 miles off thr highway.
LilyL-April 2023-Enchanted Mill is wonderful. The hosts are so welcoming and they have the most adorable animals—alpacas, donkeys, sheep, and their loyal dogs keeping the animals safe. I loved the tour of their fiber mill. I bought a couple of skeins of alpaca yarn and look forward to my next project. Oh, and beautiful sunset too!
Zoe J-April 2023-We had a lovely night’s stay here, convenient location between Albuquerque & Santa Fe - the hosts gave us a fun tour of their fiber mill. The Alpacas are cute, we loved everything about this stop!
sgbenfield-April 2023-Candace and John are such wonderful people and hosts. made us feel right at home and we got a full tour of the farm. as animal activists, we often feel uncomfortable in farm settings because well loved animals are rare. not here!! each animal is named, well kept, healthy and loved. Candace and John made sure we had everything we needed and that we were as comfortable as possible in a crazy wind storm. thank you again!!
bkotlark-April 2023-This was a lovely stay! the Lpacas are so sweet and the mill was super interesting. Hosts were amazing! Thanks so mich for an awesome visit!
Mwyoung4-March 2023-This was a special stop in Stanley, NM with welcoming hosts and 15 alpacas, 2 llamas, 3 sheep, 2 pregnant donkeys, and 2 dogs. The hosts gave me an early morning tour of the mill and introduced me to their animal friends. I wanted to take home Oakley the baby alpaca! Their store is filled with items they have made and other alpaca-themed items. Thank you for a magical stay!
Scott-March 2023-Candace and John were the absolute best hosts. The communication prior to us getting there was very clear and accurate. Their property was easy to get to off of I-40. The animals were so interesting to watch and be watched by them. It snowed in the later afternoon overnight and Candace and John were very helpful with the road conditions the following morning. We will definitely stop in on our next trip out that way.
CamperCarol-March 2023-How could anyone not smile at these delightful animal. Candace and John are gracious, generous hosts. The muountain/plains views are majestic and gorgeous. The eggs were eggsactly what I needed for dinner. Easy access to I-40 and Santa Fe. Thanks to two hard working people!
